Champions are not defined by one great season—but by the ability to keep showing up and performing year after year.
After finishing 2025 as the #1 ASJJF Team in Malaysia, Team IZZA began the 2026 ASJJF season exactly where we hoped to be—standing on top of the podium once again.
Against one of the strongest fields we've seen in recent years, Team IZZA secured 1st Place Overall in the Adult Team standings and 2nd Place Overall in the Kids division, continuing the momentum that has defined our academy over the past 18 months.
Alhamdulillah, it was another unforgettable weekend for the entire IZZA family.
A Hard-Fought Victory
This was far from an easy tournament.
With more than 26 teams from across Malaysia and the region competing, every academy arrived determined to make their mark. The level of competition was outstanding, with experienced teams bringing large squads and every division packed with talented athletes.
Unlike previous tournaments where the gap on the scoreboard grew throughout the day, this event remained incredibly close.
Every medal mattered.
Every match mattered.
Every point mattered.
In the end, the Adult Team Championship was decided by only a handful of medals, with Team IZZA finishing on 483 points, narrowly ahead of Hikari Jiu-Jitsu Team on 432 points. Our athletes also topped the medal table with 8 Gold Medals, supported by 5 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
Our Kids Team also delivered an outstanding performance, finishing 2nd Overall with 471 points, earning 7 Gold, 7 Silver, and 1 Bronze Medal against a very strong field.
These results reflect the consistency of our programme across every age group and every belt level.
Organised Chaos
One of the biggest challenges of the day wasn't just the competition—it was the logistics.
With four competition mats running simultaneously, coaches were constantly moving from one match to the next, often with multiple Team IZZA athletes competing at exactly the same time.
It was one of the busiest and most demanding tournament environments we've experienced.
Fortunately, this is where the strength of our academy truly shone.
A Team Effort Beyond the Mats
Leading the team throughout the day were Coach Adam and Coach Steve, who prepared athletes, managed match strategy, and cornered competitors from the first fight until the final medal ceremony.
But no coaching team succeeds alone.
A huge thank you also goes to Coach Doty for his continued trust, guidance, and support, even when not physically present at every event.
As the day became increasingly hectic, our assistant coaches stepped up in a massive way.
Coach Hamza, Brother Osama, Brother Khalid, Syed Amir, and Fateh were constantly on standby—warming athletes up, helping organise competitors, assisting in the corners, and making sure no one stepped onto the mats without support.
Our parents, teammates, and supporters also played a huge role, helping coordinate athletes, keeping everyone informed, and creating the incredible atmosphere that Team IZZA has become known for.
This wasn't just a victory for the competitors.
It was a victory for the entire community.
Every Champion Starts Somewhere
While we're incredibly proud of the medals and team trophies, weekends like these are really about something much bigger.
They're about watching beginners compete for the very first time.
Seeing children overcome nerves and perform with confidence.
Watching experienced competitors lead by example.
And seeing teammates celebrate one another's success as if it were their own.
Every athlete who stepped onto the mats represented Team IZZA with courage, humility, and outstanding sportsmanship.
Whether they won gold, silver, bronze, or simply gained valuable experience, every single competitor contributed to another successful weekend for the academy.
The Target on Our Back
Winning the 2025 ASJJF Team Championship changed something.
We're no longer the academy trying to surprise everyone.
We're the team everyone wants to beat.
Every tournament this year will bring new challenges, stronger opposition, and teams determined to take the title we've worked so hard to earn.
We welcome that challenge.
It pushes us to keep improving, to stay humble in victory, and to continue raising the standard of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu within our academy.
Defending a championship is always harder than winning one for the first time—but that's exactly the challenge we've embraced for 2026.
