Exactly one year ago, Team IZZA began its journey with a simple vision: to build a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy that develops champions on and off the mats. This past weekend, we reached a major milestone in that journey by claiming our first-ever Overall Team Championship at the ASJJF April 2025 KL Tournament.
For the first time in our academy's history, Team IZZA finished as the #1 overall team, combining the results from both Gi and No-Gi, across Adult and Kids divisions. It's an achievement that reflects countless hours of training, discipline, and the unwavering support of our athletes, coaches, and families.
This is more than just a tournament victory, it's the first major step towards an even bigger dream.
A Milestone One Year in the Making
When we opened our doors just one year ago, our ambition wasn't simply to win medals,it was to build one of Malaysia's strongest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teams.
Our goal for the 2025 ASJJF season is clear: To become the Overall Best Team in Malaysia.
Winning the Overall Team Championship at the ASJJF Johor Open gives us confidence that we're moving in the right direction. While there is still a long season ahead, this result proves that our athletes, coaches, and competition program are capable of competing with the very best teams in the country.
Dominating Both Adult and Kids Divisions
The level of competition was outstanding, with 17 adult teams and 15 kids teams battling for top honours.
Team IZZA didn't just perform well—we topped both divisions.
Adult Team Champions 🏆
Team IZZA finished 1st Place Overall with an impressive:
- 588 Team Points
- 11 Gold Medals
- 4 Silver Medals
- 1 Bronze Medal
Our 588 points placed us comfortably ahead of the second-place team on 318 points, highlighting the depth and consistency of our adult competitors throughout the event.
Kids Team Champions 🏆
Our young athletes continued to impress, earning Team IZZA another 1st Place Overall finish with:
- 459 Team Points
- 6 Gold Medals
- 6 Silver Medals
- 7 Bronze Medals
With 15 kids teams competing, our next generation showed incredible heart, technical skill, and determination—demonstrating that the future of Team IZZA is brighter than ever.
More Than Medals
While medals and trophies are exciting, this victory represents something much bigger.
It represents a year of early morning training sessions, late-night classes, dedicated coaches, supportive parents, and teammates who push each other to improve every day.
Every athlete who stepped onto the mats contributed to this result. Whether they won gold, fought through tough matches, or cheered from the sidelines, everyone played a part in bringing home Team IZZA's first Overall Team Championship.
Onwards to the 2025 ASJJF Season
This victory marks an important milestone, but it is only the beginning.
Our sights remain firmly set on our ultimate objective: finishing the 2025 ASJJF season as the Overall Best Team in Malaysia.
There is still plenty of work ahead, more tournaments to compete in, and more challenges to overcome. But this weekend proved that Team IZZA belongs among the country's top academies.
