Team IZZA's incredible 2025 campaign continued in spectacular fashion as we claimed 1st Place Overall Team once again at the ASJJF Malaysia Tournament, held on 12 July 2025 at DC Mall, Kuala Lumpur, organized by Scramble Clash.
After winning the opening ASJJF event of the season, our athletes returned determined to prove that our first victory was no coincidence. They did exactly that.
For the second consecutive ASJJF tournament, Team IZZA finished as the Overall Team Champions in both the Adults and Kids divisions, earning more than 17 gold medals across the competition. Against a field of over 17 teams from Malaysia and the surrounding region, it was another unforgettable day that reinforced our place among the country's elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies.
Two Down. One to Go.
At the beginning of the year, we set ourselves an ambitious objective:
To finish the 2025 ASJJF season as the Overall Best Team in Malaysia.
The ASJJF calendar consists of three major tournaments, and after winning the first two events of the season, we're well on our way to achieving that goal.
While there is still one final tournament remaining, these back-to-back Overall Team Championships have placed us in a strong position heading into the season finale. The hard work isn't over, but we're exactly where we wanted to be.
A Major Test for the Coaching Team
This tournament carried extra significance as it was the first major competition where Coach Doty was unable to fly in and support the team.
Over the past year, Coach Doty has been a huge part of our competition success, so his absence presented a genuine test—not only for our athletes, but for our coaching team as well.
Leading the team throughout the day, Coach Steve took the reins with outstanding support from Coach Hamza, Brother Osama, and Brother Khalid. Together, they managed warm-ups, coached dozens of matches, kept athletes composed between rounds, and ensured everyone was prepared to perform at their best.
The result speaks for itself.
Not only did Team IZZA successfully overcome the challenge, but we also delivered one of our strongest tournament performances to date. It was a proud moment that demonstrated the depth of our coaching staff and the systems we've built as an academy.
Exciting Matches and Dominant Performances
From the very first match until the final medal ceremony, the action never slowed down.
Our athletes displayed technical Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, relentless pressure, and a constant pursuit of submissions. The day was filled with exciting matches, dominant victories, and memorable finishes that kept the energy high throughout the tournament.
With more than 17 gold medals won across the event, every victory contributed valuable team points towards securing another Overall Team Championship.
Earning the Respect of the Community
Perhaps the most satisfying part of the weekend wasn't just lifting another team trophy—it was the recognition and respect we received from the wider Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community.
Throughout the day, competitors, coaches, and spectators congratulated our athletes and coaching staff on another outstanding performance. One comment in particular stood out:
"You guys came out of nowhere, and now you're dominating the competition scene."
Hearing words like that means a great deal.
Just over a year ago, Team IZZA was a new academy with a vision of building something special. Today, that vision is becoming a reality through consistency, hard work, and a team culture that continues to grow stronger with every tournament.
The Loudest Team in the Arena
As always, one of Team IZZA's greatest strengths wasn't just what happened on the mats—it was the incredible support surrounding them.
Parents, family members, teammates, and supporters turned out in force, creating an atmosphere that could be felt throughout the venue. Every match was backed by loud cheers, encouragement, and unwavering belief in our athletes.
Time and time again, Team IZZA dominated the crowd support just as much as we dominated the competition. That energy gives our competitors an extra lift during the toughest moments and reminds everyone that when one person competes, the entire team stands behind them.
This incredible sense of community is something we're immensely proud of, and it's one of the reasons Team IZZA continues to grow both on and off the mats.
One Final Mission
Winning back-to-back Overall Team Championships is something we'll always be proud of—but our journey isn't finished yet.
With one ASJJF tournament remaining in the 2025 season, our mission remains unchanged:
To be crowned the Overall Best Team in Malaysia.
The momentum is on our side, but championships are earned through consistency, preparation, and humility. We'll return to the academy, continue sharpening our skills, and prepare for the final challenge of the season.
